Irene Kitchens

Irene Kitchens, 81, of Hayesville died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at her residence.  She was a native of Clay County but had lived in Washington D.C. before moving back to Clay County in 1970.  Irene was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith.

She was the daughter of the late William Jess and Litha McClure Nix and was wife of the late Vernon James Kitchens, who died January 10, 1987.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen Kitchens Jones and husband Blain of Rutherfordton, and Sandy Kitchens of Andrews; three brothers, William Nix of Brasstown, Avery Nix of Murphy, and Elmer Oscar “Boss” Nix of Winder, GA; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Alexander Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 17, 2011 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Dr. Chester Jones officiating.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Roarke Arrowood, Randall Parker, Mitchell Arrowood, Mark Stiles, Brian Nix, and Darrell Nix.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 Thursday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
