Family Resources Annual Holiday Letter

As the holiday season approaches, the staff and Board of Directors of Family Resources of Cherokee County would like to send joyous wishes to everyone.  There is so much to be thankful for and there is plenty of joy to share.

Family Resources works with children and families to help find joy in their holidays and every day.  However, stress and fear may make joy seem impossible.  When parents are facing difficulty, children feel it too.

Family Resources helps families relieve the stress that keep them from reaching their potential.  This help takes many forms, such as helping parents better deal with their child’s misbehavior through parenting classes or helping parents understand their child’s developmental issues through a home visiting program.  Opportunities are created to allow parents and children to enjoy themselves together with other family through the many child- and family-centered events and activities complete with crafts, food and fun!

Family Resources helps families in crisis find the things they need.  It may be and overdue heating bill or medication that the family can’t afford.  Sometimes a family needs food to make it until the next payday.  Family Resources provides diapers and diaper rash cream when parents can’t afford them.

Helping children and families is so critical right now.  As the economy worsens and grant programs are being decreased or eliminated, family needs are increasing.  County Commissioners have generously provided office space and utilities for Family Resources for the past ten years but this year revoked all assistance, including assistance that was promised in a commission meeting but disappeared before the final county budget was presented.

In an effort to offset these needs, the Board of Directors is continuing its annual holiday letter campaign.  In the next few weeks you may receive a letter from a board member asking for a donation.  Any amount will be appreciated.  If you do not receive a letter and would like to make a donation, please call 828.837.3460 or simply mail your gift to Family Resources, PO Box 1216, Murphy NC 28906.  You are also cordially invited to visit Family Resources at 5527 US Hwy 64 West in Murphy.
