Reach Phone-a-thon
REACH Fundraiser
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Reach is planning their annual Phone-a thon starting October 3rd through October 6th from 6 to 9 p.m. Volunteers will call Clay County community members to ask for pledges of support for REACH – a local non-profit organization assisting victims of domestic violences and sexual abuse.
Why do we need your help? It has been a busy year! With the increase of family financial problems and substance abuse, Clay County has seen an unprecedented upward spiral in incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault.
In the last 12 months we have assisted 294 domestic violence clients and 114 sexual assaults clients. Our Emergency Shelter for Women and Children had 2,197 combined bed nights; Our 24/7 – 365 /day Crisis Line received 2,218 call, for a total of 4,823 services provided! Altogether, these services total almost half the Clay County population (10,587, per 2010 Census). REACH provided other services , including but not limited to: Advocacy, Information, Referrals, Emergency Transportation, and Crisis Counseling. These services were provided 6,049 times. Advocates assisted clients in Court 296 times and in hospital 79 times. If you were to spread Reach’s services out it would equal at least a service per resident.
Yes. The last 12 months have been difficult and as your challenges continue, so will ours; however, with your community support we can continue to network with other agencies and deliver the best possible service to each and every resident who need us.
If you do not receive a call from one of our many volunteers please do not hesitate to call our office at 828-389-0797 or send your tax deductible donation to P.O. Box 1485- Hayesville, NC 28904.
