Agriculture Next Celebration for Clay County’s 150th
The Sesquicentennial Committee has designated September as the month to celebrate the importance of agriculture to Clay County’s history and future.
The Committee has joined the Tractor Club and Chamber of Commerce to sponsor a day of activities on Saturday, September 24th at the Square. Families can enjoy the Tractor Parade as well as other activities and food to support the Dwight Smith FScholarship Fund. recognition will be given to farm families from generations past to present, including new agribusiness and small agricultural projects. Businesses can be a part of the Chamber Expo and non-profits supporting either agriculture or county history can have display areas. A new display at the Library shows items and literature used by local families from 1940’s to late 1950’s and includes special recognition to 4-H and the N.C. Extension Service.
The Museum is also open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays during September and October with more displays, including an exhibit of older farm equipment on Parade Day.
Sesquicentennial Fall activities will continue with a Church Event of fellowship and music on Sunday afternoon, October 2nd followed by CCCRA Cherokee Heritage at Museum on October 15th. Watch for additional information about the Quilt Exhibition on November 5th featuring hand made quilts from about 1850 to modern techniques from area artisans at the Old Rock Gym.
