Rep. Shuler Statement on Cut, Cap & Balance

Rep. Shuler Statement on Cut, Cap, and Balance Act of 2011

Washington, DC — Today U.S. Representative Heath Shuler released the following statement after joining a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives to pass the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act of 2011:

“Balancing our nation’s budget and putting us on a long-term, fiscally sound course have always been two of my top priorities in Congress. I have always worked with members of both parties to try and find common ground and areas of compromise. The Cut, Cap, and Balance Act on the floor today was far from perfect, but it does provide a path to cap discretionary spending, while also not cutting Social Security or Medicare. Therefore I joined a bipartisan group in supporting it.  As Congress and the White House continue negotiations on federal spending, I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to reach a long-term solution to responsibly cut spending, reduce the deficit, and balance the budget.”

The Cut, Cap, and Balance Act of 2011 passed the House by a margin of 234-190.
