J. Smith Howell Scholarships

J. Smith Howell Scholarships

This Scholarship program was established under the Last Will and Testament of Norvel T. Howell. The awards committee is comprised of seven individuals who are representative of the western North Carolina area.

These scholarships were established to assist worthy and talented young men and women who reside in Cherokee, Graham  and Clay Counties in pursuing their college, university and graduate degree education within the State of North Carolina. Funds provided by the will are made available not only for graduating high school seniors, but also for those students who wish to continue on to do graduate study. The committee gives consideration to the respective ability, educational goals, career ambitions and financial needs of the applicants. Awards are based on written applications and personal interviews.
