Ruth Creeks

Ruth Cheeks, 97, of Hayesville died Monday, June 6, 2011.  She was a native of Macon Co., but had lived in Clay Co. since 1939.  She retired in 1982 after working 18 years for Tiger’s Department Store.  She was a member of Downings Creek Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Edward L. and Fannie Pendergrass Roper and wife of the late Lyle Cheeks, who died April 7, 1996.  She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Surviving are a sister, Nanna McGaha of Johnson City, TN, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2011 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Carroll Roper officiating.  Interment was in Oak Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were David, Ermal, and Herbert Cheeks, David McClure, Ronnie Smith, and Benny Joe Rogers.

The family received friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Ruth Cheeks to Oak Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Keith Crawford, 260 Golf Course Road, Hayesville, NC 28904 or Aquone Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 71 Old School Road, Topton, NC 28781.

Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.
