Murphy Medical Center invites the public to a Community Health Fair on Saturday, June 18 from 7am to 11am at Tri-County Community College, Enloe Building. Free services offered include “Know Your Numbers” exam (height, weight, BMI, and blood pressure); non-fasting diabetic finger sticks; and diabetes consults. Free breast exams will be offered from 7 am to 9 am. Reduced-cost fasting blood tests (Screening Health Profiles, with T4 and PSA, Hemoglobin A1C, and PSA). To have fasting blood tests, do not eat after midnight the night before. Take morning medications with water only. Do not drink coffee or any beverage besides water. John Locke Foundation: “A Citizen’s Constitutional Workshop,” Saturday, May 21, 12:30pm – 5:30pm, at the Journey Church Fellowship Hall, 129 Church of Christ Road, Murphy (behind Ace Hardware off of US Hwy 64). Cherokee County 9-12 Project and TEA for Education invite you to view the award winning education documentary by David Guggenheim, Tuesday, May 31 at 6:00pm at the Murphy Library. The film explores the current state of public education in the U.S. and how it affects children. Parents, teachers and community members are invited and encouraged to attend. Admission is FREE. HONOR VETERANS & CLAY COUNTY’S HISTORY ON SATURDAY, MAY 28TH.
Freedom Run in the morning and see Civil war Camp followed by Veteran’s Parade at 11 a.m. and Ceremony at Noon on the hayesville Square. View historical displays and Sesquicentennial Quilt during the Open House at the Old jail Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Cherokee Guards Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans, meets monthly at Episcopal Church of the Messiah, 76 Peachtree Street, Murphy, on the first Friday of the month at 6:30 PM. Learn of the history of the War for Southern Independence from our scheduled speakers. The Captain Black Fox chapter, Order of Confederate Rose, meets concurrently with the SCV, same time, same evening. The public is cordially invited to be with us to learn of our shared history and to meet likeminded friends. Refreshments will be served. Help is available for researching your Confederate ancestors.
