Congressman Heath Shuler Announces Full Slate of Job Fairs and Small Business Informational Sessions

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Heath Shuler (D-Waynesville) has unveiled a full slate of job fairs, workforce training seminars, and small business information sessions.   The events will take place throughout Western North Carolina in July and August.

“Whether in the halls of Congress or at home in Western North Carolina, I’m always working to create a job friendly mountain region,” said Rep. Shuler. “I am pleased to announce several ‘Ask the Experts: What’s new for small businesses in 2010’ events that will provide updates about new opportunities and provide a forum for attendees to ask questions about their small businesses or start-ups.”

Participating agencies in the following small business information sessions include the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Small Business Centers at Blue Ridge and Haywood Community Colleges and McDowell Tech, the Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC), SCORE, USDA, Advantage West, Self Help, Mountain BizWorks, and several community banks.

  • Monday, July 12, from 2 to 4 pm at the Flat Rock campus of Blue Ridge Community College in the Blue Ridge Conference Hall, Cortland Room.
  • Tuesday, July 13, from 9 to 11 am at Haywood Community College’s auditorium in Building 1500 on the Clyde campus.
  • Wednesday, August 25, 10 am-12pm at McDowell Technical College at 54 College Drive in Marion.

“To help connect hard working families with job opportunities, I am enthusiastic to be able to facilitate job fairs and workforce training seminars.  These events are designed to make sure Western North Carolinians are aware of and prepared for available job opportunities,” said Rep. Shuler.

  • On July 9 from 10am to 12pm at the Macon County Community Facilities Building at 1288 Georgia Road in Franklin, there will be a workforce training and employer training seminars with the ESC, Southwestern Community College, the Chambers of Commerce of Jackson County, Swain County and Franklin Area, and the Macon County Economic Development Commission.
  • On August 14 at the former Coats American facility at 155 Palmer Lane in Marble, there will be a job fair with Tri-County Community College, the Southwestern Commission Workforce Development Board, local Chambers of Commerce, the Economic Development Commissions of Graham and Cherokee, and the ESC.  Murphy Medical Center will also hold a health fair in conjunction with this job fair.
  • On August 26 from 10am to 4pm at the A-B Tech Haynes Conference Center, Enka Center, there will be a job fair with A-B Tech.  It is also supported by the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, Employment Security Commission, and Advantage West.
