SNAP-ON IS LARGEST CONTRIBUTOR TO UNITED WAY
Snap-on, Incorporated of Murphy was the largest contributor to the recently-concluded 2009-2010 fund-raising campaign of the United Way of Cherokee and Clay Counties, according to President Margo Sullivan.
“Snap-on recently gave a generous corporate contribution of $3,100 to match what employees pledged through payroll deduction. In addition to their personal pledges, the employees have occasional in-house fundraisers which benefit the United Way,” explained Karen Borchers, United Way Executive Director. “The generosity of Snap-on and its employees will go a long way toward helping people in need in Cherokee and Clay counties this coming year. We are very grateful for their caring and generosity.”
Snap-on also has spearheaded the United Way’s “Stuff-a-Bus” project for the past two years, through which donated school supplies are gathered for needy children. “Last year, we gathered about $21,000 in school supplies which were distributed to more than 700 children, including 165 in foster care and local shelters,” said Borchers. “It’s a big project and we couldn’t have done it without the involvement of so many Snap-on employees who donated items and who gave generously of their time and energy to the project.
All contributions to the United Way stay in Cherokee and Clay Counties. They are distributed to local non-profit agencies which provide essential help – food for the needy, home-delivered meals to the elderly, emergency shelters for victims of abuse and the homeless, and other needed services to children, youth, and families. Contributors can specify whether they want their donations to be used in Clay County, Cherokee County, or both counties. – more -
Alan Williams,.Human Resources Manager at Snap-on, recently was elected as Vice-President of the United Way Board of Directors. He has served on the Board for three years. He became involved as a result of being invited in the spring of 2007 to participate in helping the Board identify the most pressing needs in the community and decide how to allocate funds to local agencies providing services. “Serving as a community volunteer on the allocations committee was a chance for me to hear first-hand about some of the most urgent needs in our community,” said Williams. “Donations to the United Way help to address those needs.”
