John Franklin Thompson
John Franklin (John Boy) Thompson, age 80 of Murphy, NC passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 in the VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC.
A native of Whitfield County, GA; he was the son of the late Mark Russell and Bessie Belle Suits Thompson. John was a US Air Force veteran. He had worked for Orkin for 25 years in the South East area. John then moved to Murphy in 1974 and opened John Boy Exterminating Company. He enjoyed car racing, motorcycle riding, dancing. John loved his dogs.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Cain Thompson; daughter, Donna Rachele Worthington; two brothers, Russell Thompson, Jr. and Fredrick Earl Thompson and two sisters, Willie Mae Williams and Betty Jane Thompson.
He is survived by two sons, Franklin Thompson and his wife, Mary R. of Franklin, NC and Gary R. Thompson and his wife, Sara M. of Murphy, NC; one daughter, Annette Curtis and her husband, Cale of Murphy, NC; one sister, Glenda Jean Lakin and her husband, Ron of Springfield, MO; best friend, James Sneed; former daughter in law, Betty Mills Thompson; 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Aud Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery in Brasstown, NC with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post, #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73, Hayesville American Legion Post 532 and Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). . Pallbearers will be Ray Cook, David Payne, Johnny Chastain, Shawn Chastain, Ricky Twiggs and Jim Twiggs.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.
