DENNIS RAXTER
Dennis Raxter, 82, of Andrews died Friday, April 30, 2010 at his residence. He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. He was a veteran and served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Dennis worked for more than 30 years at Baker Furniture and was a member of the Andrews First Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Dillie Gordon and Glesta West Raxter and husband of the late Frances Jane Raxter, who died February 10, 2009.
Surviving are two sons, Max Dale Raxter and wife, Diane of Nantahala and David Jeffery Raxter and wife, Teresa of Andrews; a brother, Don Vernon Raxter of Andrews; five grandchildren, Jason Raxter of Murphy, Darian Raxter of Robbinsivlle, Jordan Raxter of Nantahala, Curtis Raxter of Andrews, and Tera McKinney of Raleigh; and five great grandchildren, Lisa, Skye, Justin, and Ashton Raxter, and Hayden McKinney.
Funeral services was held at 7:00 PM Monday, May 3, 2010 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with Rev. Scott Roper officiating. Interment was Tuesday, May 4 at 10:00 AM in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason, Jordan, and Curtis Raxter, Marlin Parker, Ronnie Waldroup, and Jim Palmer. Honorary pallbearers were Darian Raxter, Barry Jones, Dick Strahan, and Alan Parker.
The family received friends from 5:00-6:45 PM Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the service.
