Granny’s Attic makes big annual donation to Good Shepherd
After a busy year of selling clothing and small household items, the volunteers of Granny’s Attic recently presented al donation of $32,632.78 to Murphy Medical Center for it Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice Agency.The auxiliary operates the Hayesville-based thrift store and annually donates its net proceeds to the non-profit Murphy Medical Center in support of its home health and hospice efforts.
“The poor economy, our move to a new location, and the opening of a couple of other near-by thrift stores had us wondering what our annual gift would be this year,” stated Linda Davis, outgoing President of Granny’s Attic. “But, once again, by selling those donated items a few dollars at a time, we’re able to give over $30,000 to this good cause that’s so near and dear to our hearts.”
Kathi Osborne, Foundation Director at Murphy Medical Center said, “The positive difference that Granny’s Attic volunteers make for Good Shepherd’s patients is significant. Whether it’s helping to cover the care of a dying patient without insurance or strengthening the organization by purchasing oxygen tanks to go in patient homes, this donation is very helpful and much appreciated.”
As Mike Stevenson, Murphy Medical Center CEO, accepted Granny’s Attic gift, he stated, “We are committed to providing the best home health and hospice care to our area residents, but we face tough financial challenges related to reimbursement. Contributions from supporters like Granny’s Attic really help us in our efforts.”
Granny’s Attic is located at 200 Highway 64 West in Hayesville, in Suite B next to Subway. Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice Agency is a department of Murphy Medical Center. It provides skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy, medical supplies, bereavement counseling and support groups, emergency response call button service, CAP case management, and various other services for those in need of home health care or hospice care in Cherokee, Clay and Macon counties.
