Congressman Shuler Secures $350,000 for Murphy Medical Center
Washington, D.C. – Murphy Medical Center will receive $350,000 in federal funds to help renovate an off-campus building to provide urgent care and family practice services, Congressman Heath Shuler announced.
The new center is expected to provide increased health care services to 44,000 residents in Clay, Cherokee and Graham counties. The facility also would give local residents an alternative to the emergency room, which would save money for Murphy Medical Center. Congressman Shuler (D-Waynesville) requested the funding, which was included in an omnibus spending bill that Congress passed late last year.
“This new facility will help bring more primary care physicians to the region, which is currently underserved,” Congressman Shuler said. “These federal funds will help Murphy Medical Center expand quality medical services while at the same time lower the demand on its emergency room. This new facility will save health care costs for both patients and Murphy Medical Center.”
