Senior Games Medalists

STATE WINNERS – Competitors in the Cherokee County Senior Games/Silver Arts at the state level have put Cherokee and Clay counties on the map. State medal winners in the Silver Arts categories are, from left, Gayle Larson, performance, gold; Millie Crawford, crochet, bronze; Marshall Peterson, wood pottery, silver; Jane Hembree, photography, bronze, and Loye Merwin, jewelry, gold. People 55 and older are invited to attend committee meetings held the third Monday of every month, 9 a.m., Cherokee County Senior Center.
ON THE MARK – A trio of athletes, representing the Cherokee County Senior Games, came home as medalist and one ribbon winner at the national level. From left are Gene Smith, Dave Schiell and Mike Davis. Smith placed 7th in golf at the national senior games held in Palo Alto, California this summer. Schiell was a state silver medalist in bowling and Davis was a silver and gold medalist in bowling. Not pictured is Jim Bent who took a silver and bronze in track events at the state games held in Raleigh in September. The 2010 local Senior Games are scheduled for May 9-22.
